Ascent

Ascent is a highly unique shooter level that required equally unique design solutions. The core premise centers on asymmetric gameplay: one side ascends a sheer cliff using climbing picks and ropes, while the opposing team attempts to stop them using rocks and limited-ammunition rifles. The cliff face is broken up by ledges that allow attackers to save progress as they climb. Once they reach the summit, the objective shifts to holding the ridge line to secure victory.

It was an absolute blast to research, design, dress, test, and play this level. While I received support throughout development, I was primarily responsible for driving the level to release. Huge thanks to Frank and the entire Blackmill Games team for making this possible. A special shout-out to the programmers who meticulously implemented the climbing mechanics, and to Kian for contributing additional work that helped bring the level together.
